Oratorio Chorale
Strengthening Community through Music
Now in its fifth decade, Oratorio Chorale is a symphonic chorus committed to advancing choral music through performances, collaborations, educational programs, and community outreach. Emily Isaacson joined the Chorale as artistic director in 2013 and has overseen a dramatic expansion of membership, programs, and performances. In 2015, the Chorale inaugurated Sweetest in the Gale, a women’s chorus, and a Young Artists Program for talented high school singers. Oratorio Chorale usually presents four or five programs, in 15–16 concerts a year, between September and May.
Programming in recent years has included beloved classic works by Handel, Mozart, Brahms, Fauré, Rossini, Britten, and others, as well as works by contemporary composers including Robert Kyr, Nicholas Muhly, and Aharon Harlap. Seldom-heard works such as Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 and multi-work programs including Tenebrae: From Darkness to Light, Amazing Grace: The American Spiritual, The Binding of Isaac, and the annual Sing We Noel holiday concert round out the Chorale’s repertoire.
