The Oratorio Chorale is an independent, non-profit arts organization made up of about 80 auditioned men and women singers, from communities from Portland to Wiscasset. Our membership is as diverse and varied as our programs. It is the blend of our varied backgrounds and choral experience that creates our strength, both vocally and behind the scenes.
Our music director, Emily Isaacson, is a native of Brunswick and a Portland resident and a graduate of Williams College with master’s degrees from Edinburgh University and the University of Oregon. She is currently completing final requirements for a doctorate in choral conducting and literature at the University of Illinois.
We rehearse Sunday evenings at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Brunswick beginning promptly at 6 p.m. The full chorus rehearses from 6:00 to 8:30, with rotating sectional rehearsals from 8:30 to 9 p.m. The last four rehearsals before each concert will be full-chorus rehearsals. The complete season schedule will be posted in early September at Rehearsal Schedule.
“The performance of the requiem by the Oratorio Chorale, under the direction of Emily Isaacson, was one of the most moving musical events of the decade.” — Portland Press Herald
“Word of mouth was that something special was about to occur, and the rumors were correct. Director Emily Isaacson has made every program by the Chorale an outstanding event . . . . Isaacson’s control showed itself in rapid dynamic shifts and clean, crisp beginnings, entrances and endings, something difficult to accomplish with such a large musical palette. — Maine Today
